Beatrice Moretti is a PhD Architect and Assistant Professor at the Department Architecture and Design — DAD of the University of Genoa — UniGe.
Her research explores contemporary port cities as unique urban forms, focusing on logistics clusters and the operative architectures of ports. At its core, her work investigates threshold spaces and the role of architecture in shaping the territorialisation of seas, oceans, and offshore infrastructures. These topics are explored in her course Coastal Design and Other Extreme Environments.
She has been PI for the research PULSE — The Port-clUster LandScapE: Developing a Spatial and Design Approach to Port Clusters, within the NextGenerationEU (2022/2024). The book of PULSE will be published by JOVIS in late 2025.
At UniGe, she teaches architectural design within the Bachelor Degree Course in Architectural Sciences and theory of architecture within the Master Degree Course in Architectural Composition. She is also Adjunct Professor at the Faculty of Architecture and Fine Arts, Arab American University — AAUP, Ramallah (PS).
She is part of the research group PortCityFutures (NL) and of PAGE, the collective of architectural and urban design lecturers at the University of Genoa. She works in the editorial boards of the Italian journals GUD — Genova University Design, SEASCAPE, ADH | Journal of Architectural Design and History, and OFFICINA*.
Moretti is author of more than 80 publications and of the books Beyond the Port City. The Condition of Portuality and the Threshold Concept (2020), A Landscape Infra-structure Research. Roma Tuscolana Pilot Project (2022, with G. Tucci), and Patrimonio di confine. Metabolismi della linea di costa. Indagini, sperimentazioni e visioni fra città e porto (2024, with C. Andriani and D. Servente).
